Cover image of Rom issue 23. Power Man, Iron Fist, and Rom the Spaceknight stand at the foot of a skyscraper next to the caption "TO STORM THE BAXTER BUILDING!" Sweet Christmas!

When I was just a kid,

it was the original Star Wars and comic book superheroes like Power Man and Iron Fist. As I got older, it was science fiction by Philip K. Dick and horror by Stephen King. Then came Grant Morrison’s Doom Patrol and Alan Moore’s Miracleman and Clive Barker and H. P. Lovecraft and Jorge Borges and Jeff VanderMeer and Laird Barron. . . .

I’ve always liked stories that built an entire world, stories that spark imagination, stories that terrify or inspire awe. The crazier the story, the better. The more believable the story, the better. The more unlike anything else I’ve ever read, the better.

So I hope you enjoy my long stories or novellas or whatever you want to call them, and I hope they give just a trace of the delight, wonder, and terror that I’ve gotten from some of my heroes, in horror and in other genres.

Bon appetit!

I will not plague you. I will also not provide your information to the prehuman arachnid civilization until after they have fully returned from beyond the dimensional veil.

I may send you news that seems important at the time.
